The Skydio has been doing the rounds on drone blogs, so I thought I might as well mention it also.

I've been saying for a long time that the future of drone technology is in self-aware systems that don't rely on receiving data from external computers, such as those on GPS satellites, but rather see the world around them.
I doubt that the Skydio R1 and its "storytelling applications" and CEO boasts that it will replace the need for manual flight to create useful drone footage is fully 'there' yet, but it is certainly a step in the right direction.
Relying on external sources for safe flying has always been a weak point for drones, where GPS signals can be blocked and lost relatively easily, and usually don't exist at all inside buildings and underground.
The R1 uses 13 cameras and an NVIDIA powered AI to map its surroundings as it flies and avoid obstacles, and assuming the above video is realistic (which it may well not be) this new drone seems to do quite a good job of it.
I doubt automated camera drones will be the future of professional filming anytime soon, but the future of obstacle avoidance technology seen here in its infancy will have far reaching benefits, way beyond shooting video, I'm sure!

I agree. that's why drone trackers are very much needed nowadays

Imagine that time span from now. There would be newer and more high tech autonomous drones to be produced ;)
