Today I decided I'd fly my IFLY-4 and try to get some more aerial footage using the wingcam... Seeing as I hadn't flown it in over a week I figured a quick test flight couldn't hurt. During start up everything seemed okay, but as soon as I tried to fly it I immediately knew something was wrong. Basically what happened was the quadcopter would go from 'not enough power to take off' to 'enough power to reach the moon' across one increment of the throttle on my Dx5e. I figured it had to be a calibration issue, so after a miraculous crash landing (It managed to land upright with no damage!) I took it back to the bench and hooked it up to the software. I tested everything from gyros to stick calibration and everything was fine, until I tested the motors. (For those of you who aren't familiar with the IFLY Tools software, you can test each individual motor one at a time) The problem was immediately apparent. When I tried to test Motor 1, both motor one and motor two started up. When I tried to test Motor 2, none of the motors started up. Has anyone else encountered this issue or know how I can fix it? An online search has yielded no helpful results. Do you think it'd be a hardware or software issue? The good news is my makeshift camera mount worked and I was recording at the time http://youtu.be/d_vXcpq4zoE Just a shame I no longer have a use for the camera mount unless I can fix this problem...
I guess you test all the connections? Do you have a different flight controller you can test it with?
Everything on the main board looks and feel firm, the ESCs seem to have good connection and all the plugs are in as far as they'll go. Unfortunately I don't have any other FC I can test it with and don't really have the money to buy a new one. Everything on the quad is as it was when I got it (except the props which I've replaced). I may consider trying to send it back to HK as a faulty product but I'd rather see if I can fix it myself (preferably without voiding any warranties) before going through the hassle of sending it back, and I've had it for a while now so I'm questioning whether they'd accept it or not
Yeah, I saw a thread on HK with the same problem as you, but there was no solution other than sending it back. P.S. I have a kk2 flight controller somewhere I think, I could send you that to try.
I appreciate the offer Jonathan But I think I'll do some more testing/fiddling and if nothing works then I may as well send it back. If it does come to sending it back to HK theres a chance I may be able to get a better quality quadcopter anyway! But thanks again for the offer to help in such a way!
I've done as much 'tinkering' as I dare do, I've taken the thing apart as far as I could... I can say I'm 99% sure the problem lies within the flight controller so I've taken the plunge and contacted HobbyKing Customer services. I'm going to see what they say about sending it back and if I get told I cannot send it back for whatever reason then as a last resort I will try a new flight controller and dispose of the horrible IFLY C4 FC.
Thanks for the suggestion! If I do get a refund on it I may well use the money to build my own quad, I've been thinking of doing it for a while and got it down to either the KK2 or the Naza. I don't suppose you've tried the KK2 and are in a position to give an opinion on it?
No, I haven't. It won't be anywhere near as good as the Naza V2 though. You can have my KK2 if you want it?
Have you never used it? Well if you never intend to use it again, I'll be happy to take it off your hands!
